The 75th General Convention

Now for a little tongue-in-cheek poll. The 75th General Convention of the Episcopal Church (GenCon 75) has just begun and will continue in session for about a week. Only the Democratic Party holds a larger convention. Cetainly nothing could top the last one for sensational news, but this one may have surprises of its own.

Which picture will best characterize the upcoming General Convention?

  1. I'm pulling for number 8, but I have a feeling it will be closer to 14.

I know this is meant to be a bit of light hearted fun, but you really hit a nerve with 14. I really wonder how many people know who, what, and when 14 was taken

Do these words sound like many words coming out GC.

"We, the German Führer and Chancellor, and the British Prime Minister, have had a further meeting today and are agreed in recognizing that the question of Anglo-German relations is of the first importance for two countries and for Europe.

    . . .

"My good friends this is the second time in our history that there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honor. I believe it is peace in our time."

Of course those who know history know that this allowed Hitler to build up armed forces and bring about World War II.

I vote for 14. Not a wish but an observation.

Those of us viewing from South Carolina may feel ECUSA is King Cong and we are his helpless captive shown in #5. However the storm brewing in #4 may be a more accurate depiction of the convention.

It's 11:45 Eastern, Sunday morning, 6/18/06 and my "metro local tv coverage area" includes Washingon-Baltimore-Philadephia plus cable and as of this minute I have not seen ANY coverage of the GenCon on TV at all. None. No liberal networks, no FOX, nothing. Does a tree fall in the woods if nobody hears it?

I pick #4 - the coverage will begin when the storm rages after the GenCon commits to a future of chaos pictured in #4- and God's wrath is made manifest to those who earned it, either by action or inaction.

For those of us who oppose the actions of ECUSA it feels and sounds like #19, and I'm sure there are many priests and parishes who feel the same.

The reason Runes has found nothing in the news is that the ECUSA has become irrelevant in our nation.
Number 14 is the obvious choice.

I have to vote for number six. Aliens, aliens, aliens. For a cradle Episcopalian it is all completely baffling.

  10. As it appears, it's been the bastard child of #6, #12, & #14.
