For $190 Million . . .
At a price tag of $190 Million ($10 Million more than the concrete box built as a cathedral for Los Angeles), you'd think that the new Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, California could: (a) look like at least a little bit like a church, (b) not be so ugly, and (c) not bring George Jetson so vividly to mind. But I guess not.

It looks like a nuclear reactor.
Containing, perhaps, a pile of spiritual energy for a nuclear age.
Part of me likes it. Soaring spaces with lots of glass can be beautiful and inspiring. Of course, part of me also thinks the inside looks like a bamboo steamer. I wonder what the acoustics are like. With that much glass, I'm not hopeful.
"We are looking for the nuclear wessels. Can you tell us where the naval base is in Alameda?" Err..Cathedral is in Oakland?

I don't agree that this looks like a nuclear reactor. "Holy Family" Roman Catholic church in midtown Manhattan—*THAT* looks like a nuclear reactor. This just looks like Yes album cover art.
